| Normally "The Greek" thrives on passing his sports knowledge to the "less knowledgeable", but this week I had an idea on an article that I just couldn't pass up. Recently, I was looking through this website that listed the top 100 greatest comedic movies of all time. A lot I agreed with, some I had never heard of, and some were left off that I couldn't believe. Since Granger has a message board, I think, I feel the need to put together my top 20 comedies of all time, 10 now, 10 later. And I think we should use JG's message board to decide what is missing from the list, what is too high, too low, etc. In addition to the list I will be including the role I think Granger would play in the movie. 20. "Long Gone": Many of you might not know this one, Stud Cantrell (head guy from CSI), is one of the best minor league baseball players in the game. Best baseball movie until Bull Durham copied it. Granger would play Jamie Don Weeks, the weak second baseman who finally starts hitting towards the end of the movie. 19. The next two will be my Eddie Murphy section. "Coming to America", my second favorite Eddie movie, although I am of the opinion that his best work will always be on SNL. Remember the old Fleischaker in the movie: "That is beautiful, what is that velvet?" Granger plays Louie Anderson's character at McDowell's. 18. "Trading Places", after twenty times, I still can't get Jimmmi to understand the ending and how the Dukes lose their money, but learning the "quart of blood technique" was educational in itself. I think Granger could play a great role as Lewis when he is dressed up in the Santa outfit riding in the bus!! 17. "The Graduate", a little old school here. Hoffman plays the young man seduced by an older woman. Good movie, and only Chuckie knows why I like this one. I am sure Severing likes it too!! Can't think of a role for John...too creepy. 16. Might get some disagreements here, but "Christmas Vacation" is the best Griswald epic. Still upset Randy Quaid didn't get a best comedic academy award for his role as cousin Ed. Can't give John the role of cousin Ed, so we will say the role of Rusty!! 15. "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" gave us all aspirations of skipping school and the fun that could be had. Too bad I lived in Springfield and just toured Bass Pro when I skipped school. One of the easier ones, he could easily have replaced Ben Stein....."Bueller, Bueller". 14. "Raising Arizona". Next to playing my bio in "Leaving Las Vegas", this is by far Cage's best work. John Goodman's too. Obviously when the convenience store clerk said, "son, you got a panty on your head", all the NFL players liked the look Cage was sporting at the time. Granger gets lead role, same body frame as Cage in this movie. 13. "This is Spinal Tap"...really don't have to say much here, just had to be on the list. Hope I get this one right for John, lead guitarist???? 12. "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", perfectly depicts what high school is and always will be. Clichés running around doing their own thing. Can you see Granger as Spickoli?? I'm thinking he plays the role of Judge Reinhold in the bathroom when Phobe Cates is coming out of the pool!!! 11. "Bull Durham" as I said before, best baseball movie. John's role....the guy who plays Arliss, can't think of his name, always following the coach, pep talking during the game. My tribute to Brent Garrison, "you lollygag around the bases, you lollygag in the clubhouse, you lollygag on the field, what does that make you? Lollygaggers!!" ...and finally for this week.... 10. "Something about Mary", definitely top 5 for recent comedies. Is there any question that John's role would be Mary's brother?? Next ten, next week!!!!!!! [Ed. Note: Clark works as an accountant, so it is a little scary that he is somehow going to count down ten more when he has just given us #10. Must be that Enron math.] |
